Yew log for a small bookshelf

My daughter is very fond of reading lately and she is hoarding a lot of books. her grandpa has a few yew logs lying around. thinking of surprising her with a bookshelf..
curious of its durability and any tips on sealing it well? something that will help to make it last longer too? any advice or suggestions will be greatly appeciated!

I think you can take a look online for some good yew sealants. Epoxy resin is optional but if we're talking about books, we need moisture resistance for it. just a thin layer will do.

yew's a great, durable wood with beautiful grain. Just make sure it's dry, then sand smooth and seal with poly or Danish oil, a few coats and it'll last ages.

I've made a rack from yew wood before. use shellac based sanding sealer, then a couple of coats of true oil to get those high gloss finish
