type of wood to build a nautical style dresser

I want to build a nautical style dresser and I'm trying to figure out the best wood to use.
I've built furniture before, so I'm not a total beginner, but I'm just not sure what would work best for that specific style.
Also, what's a reasonable budget to expect for something like this? I don't want to get halfway through and find out I've spent a fortune on materials.
