I made a maple edge grain cutting board about four months ago as a gift for my sister but she just sent me a photo yesterday and there's a crack running about six inches down the middle of it and getting worse according to her. I feel terrible because I spent probably 15 hours on this thing. I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong so I don't repeat the mistake. The wood was from a local lumber yard and they said it was kiln dried, I also let it acclimate in my shop for maybe a week before I started working with it
Could it be that the wood wasn't actually as dry as they claimed? or maybe my sister put it through the dishwasher even though I specifically told her hand wash only? I would love to try repair it or is it basically trash now?
