I have this issue with a cherry blank I’ve been working on, the end grain feels soft and almost spongy in spots, like the wood’s gone a bit punky. It’s not something I expected with this piece, and it’s throwing a wrench in the turning process. Right now my main thought is to keep taking it down until I hit solid wood, but that could mean losing a lot of material, and I’d really like to avoid turning it into firewood if I can help it.
