need wood for gun stocks

my dad's thinking about trying his hand at making a new gun stock for one of his air rifles. Has anyone here ever tackled something like that?

He's specifically on the hunt for some Walnut or Yew wood to get started. If anyone has experience or knows where he might find some good pieces, let me know! He's pretty keen to give it a go

Walnut is a fantastic option for gun stocks since it's sturdy, reliable, and has a great appearance. Yew is a bit rarer but could be a neat choice if he's looking for something different, just a quick note, its dust can be harmful, so he should definitely take some safety measures. If he needs walnut blanks, he might want to check out Rare Woods USA or Macon Gunstocks, they're great places for that. How about shaping or finishing?

Have you tried checking out specialty lumber dealers online?
I think many of them cater specifically to gunstock makers and will have blanks already rough-cut or even air-dried for years!
Also check your local sawmills or even larger woodworking supply stores?
