Dowel jig hack that actually works!

Saw someone mention using aluminum flat bar as a dowel jig and tried it yesterday and my it was game changer, its way cheaper than the fancy jigs and just as accurate if you take your time setting it up. Anyway is this a novel thing or am I late to the party?

I dont think its new, its not just common, I know someone who has been using aluminum bar stock for dowel jigs too, it works great and you can drill it to whatever spacing you need for your specific projects
