Best material for resin table molds

I'm helping a friend build his first resin river table, and we're trying to decide on the best material for the mold. I've heard a lot of people suggest using MDF, but I'm curious if there's a better or more reusable option available. If you've made one of these before, what did you use for your formwork and where did you get it? I'd really appreciate any tips or lessons you've learned along the way

MDF works for a one-off if you seal it well , but melamine board is a better step up, its cheap, smooth and easier to release. If you're planning to make more tables, HDPE sheets are the best option since theyre super durable and don't need any release spray. You can find melamine at most hardware stores and HDPE online or through plastic suppliers.

Why bother with MDF when it swells if resin leaks? Melamine or HDPE sheets are way smarter...reusable, smooth release, and less mess. MDF's cheap, sure, but long-term it's a rookie mistake
